Stoma Irrigation
Duration: 1 hour
Type: Session for specialist nurses, link nurses, physiotherapists and ERAS nurses
About: Colostomy irrigation is not the preferred choice for ostomates, and is not routinely offered to patients with a colostomy. However, irrigation can put patients back in control of their continence, which in turn can reduce anxiety, depression and feelings of self-isolation.
This relatively straightforward technique can help to improve discretion and make life more convenient for ostomates. This one-hour module will help you to identify patients who may be able to irrigate, and give you skills to implement in your practice. Sessions, with information on ASCN guidelines and troubleshooting advice, aim to give you the tools to support your patients and improve their quality of life.
